Beach Surf to Rooftop Turf

SURF

Last year, I decided to indulge in the creative, resort side of swimwear.  This year, the theme has been all.about.comfort.  In more ways than one.  I want to be comfortable in my clothes enough to forget about them and enjoy my life.  Especially when I'm at the beach.

Harbor Blue

A couple weeks ago, we decided to paint one of the main walls in our bedroom.  With crisp white walls running throughout the loft, I thought a deep dark color to (surprisingly) pop would be best.  I've been trying to find the right moment, as well as the perfect light to show you the finished product...

pssst!  not to mention of course a coordinating ensemble to wear
inspired by the new statement wall!

I fell in love with this Martha Stewart paint - and the color is "Wrought Iron" ... it also looks like a harbor blue though which reminds me of the color of the lakes and harbors around Seattle.
So dark, moody and classic!

I also love the wash of these trusty All Saints drop-crotch denims.  With my striped sailor top I thought it would be fitting for a nautical look.
I actually didn't wear this outfit for long since it reached the 90s yesterday and I wasn't about to let myself sweat in a silk jersey sweater top and heavy coarse denim.
What I thought would be an easy breezy outfit turned out to be hellish and I eventually couldn't wait to take it off!

I am looking forward to wispy jumpers and cooling Summer dresses so keep visiting for more Tiny Closet Summer wear!

This is 30

It's my birthday.
My 30th birthday, to be exact and I have been waiting for this day since I was 19 years old.

Why?  Hm, well let's see....

I've always imagined my thirties to be the more evolved, improved, more attractive version of my twenties.  As I suspected, on my 20th birthday, my twenties did end up being messy, painfully rookie, chock full of mind-boggling growth and awwwwkkkwwwaaaaard.   Whew!  Let's have a do-over, shall we?  Enter my thirties.  The perfect do-over I think.

Yes, yes, so I survived the terrible tumultuous twenties and more importantly, picked up a few special treasures and charms
throughout the decade to thoroughly enjoy for my thirties.  A few of which being:

Self Respect
The art of saying no.  Refinery29 listed this as one of the most important things your 30s teaches you.  It think I got a head start and I plan to master it before the end of this decade.

Passion
I finally found something I truly, adoringly believe in.  It's the first thing I think about when I wake up and the last thing I muse over before falling asleep:
Style, fashion and designing clothing.  Took me 30 years to find it and now I'm fixin' to have me some fun!!

Girlfriends
Where would I be without each and every one of them?  If I did anything right during my twenties, it was solidifying some amazing homegirls.
My absolutely fabulous wine cellar of women friends just keep getting better and even more valuable with age.

My Man
He is an incredible force of miraculous love, inspiration and laughter.  I can't imagine a better life than the one I have by his side.

So blah blah blah, on to what I am wearing!  What better day to wear my tutu, wouldn't you say?

It was starting to sulk in the back of my Tiny Closet after I wore it in this post and as I was pondering what to wear for my first day of being 30, I realized - girl you better wear that tutu!

Of course, in Tiny style, I chose my trusty Catherine Malandrino eyelet dress and my cropped AE denim jacket.
Two items I have paired with numerous other pieces and are very much adored staples.

So!  For my birthday, I have one humble request for you:
as many of you are already in your 30s and 40s,  I would LOVE to hear what you have to say about it!!

Any advice on entering well-equipped for my 30s, yall?  Any words of warning?  Let me know your secret!

And as always, have an absolutely wonderful week.  Hope you enjoyed your holiday weekend :)

A Hand-Me-Down & A Gift

I received my load of goodies the other day, courtesy of my winnings from Beso.com (eee!) and I've been relishing in all the new possible outfits I will be putting together with my Tiny Closet.

The Tiny Closet- "oh the possibilities..."
And my, it's true!
A lil closet full of great pieces and a lot of imagination really can take you far.  In fact, except for my trip in Asia, from the time I began chronicling my closet adventures to now, I can count on one hand the amount of times I've gone shopping (psst, it's 3 by the way).  And if that's not amazing for a girl-addicted-to-retail like me, I don't know what is.  And you know, it's fun having a small wardrobe to work with and it's even addicting thinking up all the different ensembles I could make with the same clothes.  Why do you think I started this blog anyway?  Whoever said it was right, the less you have, the more creative your mind is inclined to be.

Anyway, yesterday, I decided to dress down one of my new items, a pair of Castaner espadrille wedges from Yoox.com.  Seeing how it's still wintry outside, it wasn't totally the right time to wear them but I totally had to anyway right?  So, I decided to make a subtle debut on Sunday and save the bup-budda-bup-bup-bup-baaah showcasing for a warmer, sunnier day.  For now, they give my easy, chilaxing, Nantuckety feel vibe a nice chic touch.

Espadrilles have never quite been my style however, these pointy oxford-like wedges have my name written all over them.  The pointy toe is classy and gives the espadrille style a tinge of formality, which mama likes.
Theo had this chainmail cuff custom made for me by Riaria, a jeweler in New York.  It's ma' fave.
This shirt is Theo's.  It's actually double layered cotton/linen blend.  So warm and comfortable to wear.  Why wouldn't Diesel make this for women?

shirt: Diesel Men / pants: Zara / cuff: Riaria / ring: H&M / earrings: Firelily Jewelry / wedges: Castaner

Hope you had a great weekend :)
