The Tiny Closet

The other morning, right before taking the dog for a walk, I thought it would be a perfect time to show off my new shoes.

Of course, I don't take my dog out for our morning walks in crisp white 4-inch heels, but with the casual oversize sweater and torn jeans I was sporting, I thought I'd pop em' on and pose in the kitchen just for you!

This kind of simple outfit that I throw on to walk my dog or pick up filtered water at the convenient store is fun to transform into something cute and a little sexy with the right heel.  You know, for when I want to go to a party or out to brunch and still wear the same thing, hehe.  So I got these heels to specifically do just that: upgrade all my slouchy, frumpy? easy ensembles to something more femme, stylish and... thought out.  With the thick heel, the perforated upper and modern lacing, this type of design goes well with my minimal casual wear.  And the peep toe will be superb for Spring and Summer!

Last year, I decided to indulge in the creative, resort side of swimwear.  This year, the theme has been all.about.comfort.  In more ways than one.  I want to be comfortable in my clothes enough to forget about them and enjoy my life.  Especially when I'm at the beach.

The days have been like Summer here and the nights are barely cool.  I haven't been too interested in wearing lots of clothing.  But when am I ever??  Ah yes, I am a 1 to 2 piece gyal so I've been welcoming this sudden signature Summer camp weather... 

...with cutoffs and a tee.

I've so been enjoying my new cropped cut!  But even more, this sizzling, bright weather has been giving me life.  I want my makeup and accessories to be equally vivid and vibrant.

I've been exploring fun color coordination again with my beauty routine.  Can't wait to show you some new ideas I'll be playing with this Summer!

 It's always fun to alter classic looks with a trendy "now" twist.  That's what's so amazing about my lil Tiny Closet.  

I've had both this top and shorts for over 5 years and yet I've never worn this outfit before.  

The endless, simple ensembles I can get from a paired down wardrobe and some creative imagining never cease to surprise me.   

Last weekend, while shopping with my dad at one of my favorite Indian boutiques in the Fashion District, I spied the prettiest all white tunic.  Instead of wearing the proper size (traditional tunics aren't meant to be too fitted), I decided to try a slightly smaller size anyway and wear it as a lil mini dress.   With my petite stature, it's a challenge finding dresses that hit me at the right length.  This fitted tunic worn as a dress had a length too perfect to pass up.

It's not normal that I wear an outfit made up of mostly new items(!!) so I'm excited to begin weaving them into my Tiny Closet keepers.

A couple years ago, I wrote an article for a friend that included tips on how to reach your goals and achieve your dreams through your closet.

The guide and tips were pretty much centered around one theory that many of you have perhaps already heard or read somewhere: 

"Dress like the woman you want to be."

By doing this, you're then reminded of the woman you aspire to be every time you see yourself in the mirror.  

You get to see what the woman who has achieved what you want to achieve dresses like.  In yourself.

And more importantly, if clothing influences our actions (and I strongly believe it does) then if we're dressing like the women we want to be, we would then be influenced to act like the women we want to be as well, right?  So essentially we're utilizing our wardrobe to motivate and inspire us to realize our future.  I like that.

Anywaaaaaaay, I've been thinking about that theory a lot lately as I've found myself gravitating towards more of a concentrated look these days.  Envisioning this effortless, casual, chic, warm, understated glamour has been my point of focus and I've been wanting to be surrounded by it!  I guess I realized this style is kind of an ideal destiny for myself, and when I wear this look it makes me feel like it's all attainable, you know?

I have a lot of fun with my Tiny Closet and all the countless experiments I do to keep my wardrobe creative and versatile - but it's always clear when I wear something that makes me feel like the best version of myself.  It empowers me!  And I think that's my favorite thing about clothing and style: its incredible influence. 

Yesterday was a big day and it ended with an even bigger evening.  My hometown football team, The Seahawks won the Super Bowl for the first time in history(!!)  Needless to say, the city of Seattle was pretty pleased.  The streets were alive with dancing and cheering and my husband's voice grew hoarser by the minute from hours of yelling.  

Anyway, getting into the spirit of the events to come, I found this cute, vintagey looking Seahawks sweatshirt in my roommate's closet (thank you, Chris!!).  Put it with my favorite pair of dark denim and some very old nude heel faves and voila!

I would see this a lot during Fashion Week and it always looked so natural together.  So it's a about time I finally tried heels and a sweatshirt.

I felt so sexy and fresh!  THIS is what I'm supposed to feel like in shorts - not awkward and feeling like I'm another species entirely.

They're stretch, they're cut more like the style of underwear and they are super.duper.short.  Okay?  I was about to wear heels but then I thought, naaaah.  I'm not that much like Beyonce or Amber Rose.

So instead of heels, I slipped on these comfy chic spikey grey high tops.  

I absolutely adore the color.

So I am having lots of fun with these Summery shorts.  Since L.A. is still pretty warm during the days I suspect I'll still be strutting in them through Fall.  

And I'll be delighted to, seeing as how I've waited years for this :)

I've been having trouble finding a cover up for the office that's also season appropriate...  

My BCBGMAXAZRIA blazer, while stunning and fit for almost any occasion, is black and longish and just too heavy for Summer - even in Seattle.  Also, I am super petite a la boy hips so blazer shopping is definitely no walk in the park.

So you can imagine my surprise and immediate rush of joy I experienced when I happened upon this fabulous thrift find while shopping with a friend last week!  It was perfect because I kept bragging to her about my burgeoning thrift shopping skills at Value Village so when she spontaneously requested I take her along to prove it, this little tailored, tweed number popped up on my radar making me look quite impressive amidst the piles of maternity wear and polyester dashikis.  And the fact that it was a $6.99 made her a believer in thrift finds.

And since the whole reason I bought this blazer was to have a summery cover up for work, I can't wait to share what it looks like with my office dresses.  

Ah, the perfect Spring/Summer blazer!  And I found it just in time.
