My Favorite Things

Crop tops and harem pants.  Over the 90 degree weather weekend, I wore them together.

Why didn't I do this sooner??

I repurposed a denim tank dress as a cropped denim tank.  I've had crop-top fever lately and since I hadn't worn this item as a dress in ages anyway, I thought I'd reinvent it before throwing it out for good...I actually think it may have been better as a dress though :-/   What do you think?

Eh, you repurpose, you learn I suppose.

These harems however, will never get old.   I swear it!  This is #2 of 6 in my growing collection.  These can actually cover my body as a tube jumper.  But that look really is for the beach I think.  I love the elegant drape they have when worn as pants.

And they actually pair beautifully with my linen lace up wedges. This is a comfy outfit all in all.  The crop was a bit high so I wore a casual lace bustier type bra underneath.
You can actually see it peaking  out from under which is kinda fun :)

...In other news, I am FINALLY finished with a wonderful project I've been focusing on as of late.  Can't wait to show you tomorrow the long awaited fruit of my labor.
It was so fun and I learned a ton so please come visit again tomorrow to check it out!

Hope you enjoyed your weekend :)

A Dress For Summer & Winter

In classic Tiny Closet fashion, I decided to wear my most favorite Summer dress, in a Fall/Wintry style.  While making our way to a nearby cafe Saturday morning, Theo and I took a very chilly walk along Alki Beach.

I decided to layer an oatmeal hued, tunic sweater over my Catherine Malandrino eyelet dress.  My all-season canvas wedges were perfect for the ensemble but I did miss some coverage on my legs.  They were cold!  Oh well - when it comes to the sake of fashion, my suffering is minimal.  I will admit though that I am consistently guilty of allowing myself to be too cold or too hot.

I wore my wedding earrings by a relatively new line to Nordstrom's fashion jewelry, Nodri.  The design in gold and crystal pave were perfect for the occasion and actually go perfectly with everything else in my Tiny Closet!  The cowl neck on this H&M sweater is beautiful and so warm.  It's been a A/W staple for a couple years now.

Have a great week!

Sewing For Beginners

In a week, I will be flying to Vegas to celebrate and help host my company's annual award show. It will be a week of galas, parties, meetings and shows and I can't believe I haven't planned out my outfits yet!!  I did however, plan to finish sewing my first Summer dress.  Yes, specifically for Vegas I aimed to sew something minimal, classy, and a lil bit sexy!  Check it out:
I tagged along to one of Theo's appointments last week.  We were in a particularly gorgeous area where the greenery and iron gates went beautifully with my new striped number.  I actually designed and sewed this free hand - no pattern.  I saw a stunning Alexander Wang dress in black and was instantly inspired to remake it :)  Ya think he'll mind?

Since this piece has just one strap and it's fitted, like I've said in the past with this style, it can get a little ice-skatery.  Sooo, I decided to make the one strap thicker and attempted to give a slight drape under the neckline - so it looks less costume-like, yeah?

My accessories are from the Philippines, the espadrilles are from Yoox.com (psst, I also wore them here), and this thick rattan-like belt always comes in handy - got it from Forever21.  The simplicity of this outfit makes my Tiny Closet heart sing.

And even though Summer is almost over for the great Northwest, this dress will surely be popping up a few more times before Fall - and again next Summer!

Keep visiting to see more of my sewing projects!  Cus I'm on a roll, ladies :)

Bohemia

Winter coats have a tendency to cramp my style after a while.  So when I'm feeling cramped and cranky with my outerwear options,
my Nicole Bridger wool wrap usually satisfies my need for something different.

Something different but just as warm!
I usually wear this wrap belted like I did here.  But with my wide leg denims I thought it would be more interesting to see the wrap all open and voluminous.  With the 60 mph winds I experienced that day, I certainly got the "drama" I was going for.

This thing is huge and incredibly warm because of its super tight weave.  For added texture and appeal though, I layered my wrap over a contrasting, loose knit cardi-sweater (this also made the wrap look more like outerwear and less like a robe or house coat).  After adding bangles, a bandana and oversize feather earrings, I was pleased to see a look I rarely entertain.  Bohemian!  Oh, the many possibilities of The Tiny Closet, indeed!   How can such a lil ol' wardrobe come up with so many different looks??  Quantity doesn't have much to do with options so I don't worry about it.  I focus on possibilities.

And just like true Tiny Closet living, I've worn this all before in different ways for different days.  Check it out!

I wore these wedges here.
I wore this wrap here.
You can get a better look at these bangles here.
This bag comes up a lot

A Hand-Me-Down & A Gift

I received my load of goodies the other day, courtesy of my winnings from Beso.com (eee!) and I've been relishing in all the new possible outfits I will be putting together with my Tiny Closet.

The Tiny Closet- "oh the possibilities..."
And my, it's true!
A lil closet full of great pieces and a lot of imagination really can take you far.  In fact, except for my trip in Asia, from the time I began chronicling my closet adventures to now, I can count on one hand the amount of times I've gone shopping (psst, it's 3 by the way).  And if that's not amazing for a girl-addicted-to-retail like me, I don't know what is.  And you know, it's fun having a small wardrobe to work with and it's even addicting thinking up all the different ensembles I could make with the same clothes.  Why do you think I started this blog anyway?  Whoever said it was right, the less you have, the more creative your mind is inclined to be.

Anyway, yesterday, I decided to dress down one of my new items, a pair of Castaner espadrille wedges from Yoox.com.  Seeing how it's still wintry outside, it wasn't totally the right time to wear them but I totally had to anyway right?  So, I decided to make a subtle debut on Sunday and save the bup-budda-bup-bup-bup-baaah showcasing for a warmer, sunnier day.  For now, they give my easy, chilaxing, Nantuckety feel vibe a nice chic touch.

Espadrilles have never quite been my style however, these pointy oxford-like wedges have my name written all over them.  The pointy toe is classy and gives the espadrille style a tinge of formality, which mama likes.
Theo had this chainmail cuff custom made for me by Riaria, a jeweler in New York.  It's ma' fave.
This shirt is Theo's.  It's actually double layered cotton/linen blend.  So warm and comfortable to wear.  Why wouldn't Diesel make this for women?

shirt: Diesel Men / pants: Zara / cuff: Riaria / ring: H&M / earrings: Firelily Jewelry / wedges: Castaner

Hope you had a great weekend :)
