About

HI, I'M NATALIE

Have you ever had a-nothing-to-wear day?  Me too.  One day I decided to write about it.

Welcome to my Tiny Closet.  Where I chronicle my daily adventures in personal style.

When I first started exploring style and fashion for myself, it was under the premise of not shopping.  Simply working with the clothes I had.  Why?  Well for one, I lost my job.  Ouch.  And then one day I looked at my closet - I took a good long look at it for the first time.  And I realized I didn't like a single thing I owned.  The biggest question I had was,

But I love to shop!
So why do I buy clothes I don't even like?

I decided that until I could figure out what the heck I do like, I wouldn't shop for anything new. And you know what?  That lasted a year!

With the absence of buying new clothes, I was forced to get creative with my wardrobe.  Really creative.  Exploring (and finally finding) my personal style, I learned what clothes and accessories to buy and what to pass on.  I learned the styles, colors and looks that resonated with me and those that were fulfilling enough to simply admire on others.  I also learned how to ride the wave of sometimes pressuring trends, and the rules and regulations that are constantly put on women on how to express ourselves in fashion.  From wearing maxi Summer dresses as Winter sleepwear to mixing my gym clothes with my date night ensembles, I created versatile looks, mixed seasonal pieces and layered styles for years.

In fact, I liked it so much that I'm still showing people how I do it to this day - and all with (roughly) the same amount of clothing I started with.

I also created my own clothing line...
And it's called the The Tiny Closet Shop (surprise, surprise).  I gained such a strong sense of personal style and wardrobe standard that after a few years, I couldn't even shop in stores anymore.  The fit was off or the color was wrong or the quality was terrible.  So I began sewing the clothes myself.  And wouldn't you know it, it became a business.  For handmade, beautiful daily statement pieces come on over.  I'll show you what's new in store.

My closet hasn't grown much larger than the 28 items I was left to work with almost 7 years ago, but the options still seem endless.  I created The Tiny Closet for myself and for you, not to make rules or to tell you what to buy or how much money to spend - but to explore how to build a stunning, authentic, carefully curated closet to love!

Exploring creativity and self expression through clothing without waste, mindless spending or perpetual clutter is a feat.  And a subject I dedicate my life to.  So look around, take a peek at my archives and enjoy my fashion adventures throughout the years of working with a Tiny Closet.  And hopefully, my trials and triumphs will inspire you to build an even better closet (and life) of your own.

You'll be amazed by all the possibilities!

  8. Love how you summed it all up. You are doing a great job pulling out outfits from that tiny closet. Sometimes I find myself trying to expand because I "don't have any clothes" in my closet and end up overwhelmed (kind of like when your mom tells you your eyes are too big for your stomach) so a tiny closet forces you to be creative! Love it.

  20. Hi there! I love your blog. So many great ideas. I'm from Good On You - an ethical brand rating app, and a blog. I'm writing an e-book about how to create an ethical wardrobe on a budget and I'd love to include one of your images in it. Would you mind? I can mention you at the end of the e-book too. Thanks so much and keep up the awesome work! :)
    Cheers,
