The Tiny Closet

 So this is a random post this week - I had planned to discuss something slightly different but I shoot from the hip and old habits do die hard.  A favorite of my posts comes to mind that may be helpful to read (if you haven't already).  It discusses one of my Tiny Closet truths in dressing to improve your life and if this post was too random - check this one out and I hope it inspires.

Even if I'm out and about, I have the tendency to marinate in the same coffee shop/bar/restaurant for hours so my clothes are primarily customized to allow me to do that.  There's a sexy luxury in comfort.  

And though I always have some project I'm knee deep in, zooming around just isn't for me so I like that most of my projects keep me at home. So I can get even more cozy!

Lounging in my new robe on Wednesday and waiting for my hair to dry, instead of emailing or writing up an outline for yet another project, I decided to chill and catch up on my favorite neighborhood read.  And also squeeze in a little interior decor inspiration!

With special pieces like this robe, it makes me love my closet.  It also inspires me to continue making my Tiny Closet unique and meaningful because anything else hanging next to it will just pale in comparison!

Forget the fancy and expensive.  Even if you can't be bothered with sewing, it is very possible and actually makes a difference to have a great quality, well fitting comfortable wardrobe that aligns artistically with your taste.  

I mean, that's what luxury really is.

I feel like I've been cropping everything from jeans to skirts to tops!  Including this men's shirt.  I love wearing this cropped button up with everything in my Tiny Closet!  And these harem pants went amazingly with the top last weekend.

I recently decided to let someone else do my hair.  Eeee!  After 5 years of personally cutting, styling, and raising a head of natural healthy locks, I'm moving on to other important things and trusting it to someone else.  I randomly made an appointment with Drybar, a blow drying salon (I thought that stuff was for straight-haired girls!) and I'm hooked!!

I usually prefer the smaller curls but these loose big curls are fabulous too.  So lush looking.  And also, having a professional take to my strands was shocking.  My hair was silkier than I've ever seen it - even my husband was shocked at the quality difference.  Anyway, I'm feeling it.  This slightly different look is a nice alternative to my norm.

yep, truly a Tiny Closet treasure.  See how I've worn them in the past with a draped jumpsuit, and also with a mini skirt. 

Just goes to show, if it still works, why throw it out?

Valentine's Day is one of my favorite holidays.  Like any observing holiday - like Mother's Day or Thanksgiving - for me, it's a day to celebrate my love for my family and the amazing people in my life.  

Valentine's grumps, beware!  Love is in the air!

But anyway, 

this year I wanted to play with the style of "love" for a moment.

 Feeling nostalgic - and needing a nicer bandeau than my trusty lycra ones, I grabbed the bandeau from my Max Mara wedding dress.  I've been on a gypsy pant kick lately so I made another pair out of a gorgeous drapy material leftover from when I made this Summer dress.

I never wrap my hair at night so by morning, my curls tend to mold into a Huey-esque style, dense and tall.  Yesterday morning, I decided to just go with it.  I put in some bobby pins, smoothed the sides and threw on some wayfarers.  Not gonna lie - the new do felt pretty fresh!

To compliment my architectural hairstyle, I wore a streamlined jumper and a simple white tube dress.  Minimal just how I like it.

So I think, all together, this new updo is pretty awesome.  

Sometimes I forget just how much a hairstyle can change and influence clothing.  

It has revved me up to experiment some more this weekend!

I am growing more and more excited for the future these days...

Wednesday was a big day for me and marked the small beginnings of something new.

I can't wait to divulge but for now I'll just talk about my favorite casual dress by James Perse!

I think this is my favorite, least fussy way to wear this dress, actually.  You may remember, I wore it here with boots and here with heels.  I absolutely love it with a cropped denim jacket and oxfords though.  No belt, no necklace, no other accessories than some sunnies - like true Tiny style :)

It occurred to me the other day that I've lost myself in fashion.  

Let me explain...  

To lose oneself in fashion: while this is probably thought of as more of a blissful experience, I don't actually mean it that way.  I mean this realization was a slap on the forehead.  An epiphany really.  I realize I have forgotten where I stand in all of this - my identity, my fashion. Statement.  Lately, I've been finding it harder to be inspired.  But I realize that's only because I've been inundating myself with style and fashion that I don't connect with.  While I love it, I don't relate.  Perhaps you have experienced this too?  

Being a true lover of fashion, its easy to become distracted by all the bright patterns and sparkly sequins and amazing ensembles...  I have to remind myself though that while all these wonderful things I observe in this fashionable world of ours is fine and lovely, I can't forget that I too have yet another unique lens to share.  And especially as a blogger, shouldn't it be my goal to then inundate you with my interpretation of this thing called fashion?  

Yes.  

If you were wondering, yes, you're right.  These looks are all from AW 2010-11.   AW 2012 fell flat for me this year.  That didn't stop me of course from buying both the Vogue and Elle collections though.  A girl's gotta have something to read!  But then again - this is my point in staying true to thine self:  Just because its 2012 doesn't mean you're gonna see me posing in a pastel Carven mini with bows on my heels.
