A Look of Love

Valentine's Day is one of my favorite holidays.  Like any observing holiday - like Mother's Day or Thanksgiving - for me, it's a day to celebrate my love for my family and the amazing people in my life.

Valentine's grumps, beware!  Love is in the air!
But anyway,

this year I wanted to play with the style of "love" for a moment.

Since romantic is not a usual look I rock (I'm more of a modern minimalist) I was excited to have an excuse to put together something different, girly and fun.
Like I really needed an excuse though, right?

Whenever I play with a different style than my own,  since it's temporary I go a less expensive route of course and hit up the Garment District, fabric shops and thrift stores.  This time, I had a specific look in mind: a lovely hybrid between my minimalist ways and a whimsical, ultra romantic styling.  I designed a lounge-like swing jacket made of deep navy lace and paired it with what else?  Chic white gypsy pants.  Whipped it all together fast for a Tiny glamour shoot!

jacket: Tiny Closet Collection / bandeau: Max Mara / pants: Tiny Closet Collection / lipstick: M.A.C. Ruby Woo

Feeling nostalgic - and needing a nicer bandeau than my trusty lycra ones, I grabbed the bandeau from my Max Mara wedding dress.  I've been on a gypsy pant kick lately so I made another pair out of a gorgeous drapy material leftover from when I made this Summer dress.

I hope you all enjoy the spirit of tomorrow and if you have a special someone, it's fun to get a little sultry and glam.

Quickie

Labor Day festivities have had me going in all directions these days.  I was so disappointed I couldn't post last Friday but the holidays do tend to sweep me up into a cloud of activities and obligations.  So sorry about that :(

This is just a quickie from yesterday.  Our rooftop pool area was repainted a bright, ultra-reflecting white.  So tanning has gone from a subtle color change to major tan lines.
The sun has been blisteringly hotttt lately and I have been absolutely loving it.

Unlike my traumatizing Summers back in New York where as soon as I stepped outside, I felt like I was stepping into a hot, goopy jambalaya, the desert heat here in California is dry and searing.  Whew!

Mama like.

sizzle sizzle

These last few days have made almost a sparkly glow on my skin, which is getting super dark and bronzy!
I plan to talk about this later along with some other fun topics that I've received a lot of requests about.

So keep stopping by this week as I'll be
updating soon!!

#happyhour

With each month that goes by, I've been feeling increasingly bolder and more daring with my clothing choices...  And with Summer here beating down on us, it's easy to just give up on covering up - too hot to care!

That being said though, I think this is the most daring outfit I've worn to date.

And I know you L.A. girls are all probably laughing - this is practically a uniform the way I see women rocking this look everyday.
You Cali ladies are contagious!  Showin all that skin, frolicking down the street without a care.
I wanna play too!

I actually put this super simple ensemble together right after work in preparation for a midweek happy hour with Theo.  As I've told you before, he loves this jersey skirt - for it's obvious qualities of course and I love it for it's ultra comfiness... and I also love Alexander Wang to bits.

And these wedges!  I accepted years ago that I have short legs.

But I don't accept wearing shoes that make them look even shorter!  And that also includes shoes with thick ankle straps like the ones you don't see here.
Why?  Because I cut them off.  Straps cut short the fluidity of the leg.  On everyone.
And it's fine if you're Heidi Klume yes, but since my legs don't have much real estate, I cut the straps off these wedges for the sake of looking longer.

Like Heidi, yes?  ;-)

bandeau: F&F / skirt: T by Alexander Wang / wedges: Trouve / necklace: Heavenly Couture / earrings: Tory Burch

While posing a la mid drift and heels, we saw our roommate and bestie relaxing, minding his own business.  He's always so stylish and I love that we always look like twins in photos so of course, we invaded and had an impromptu photo shoot :)  Between Theo and Chris, I'm in such fashionable company.

I'll be finishing up some fun little coverups for the Summer months that you may be interested in checking out tomorrow!

oh who am I kidding?
You're going to adore them!

Fit Form Style

During the day, I try not to eat heavy foods as I get tired very easily and anything heavier than toast will just send me to dreamland.  But I also don't really feel like having just a juice in the middle of the day either.  So, to keep my stomach from growling around 3pm (and to satisfy my demanding sweet tooth), I like to blend this quick snack:

ice cubes
20 almonds
1 tbsp flax seeds
small glass of almond milk

aaaaaaand...

Trader Joe's Midnight Moo chocolate syrup

yummy!!

Almonds are a great source of vitamin E (yay for skin!!) and give me energy.  And flax seeds are like a superfood with Omega 3 fat and fiber.
Midnight Moo is also a very important source of goodness... so that's something too.

And why am I wearing Skipper's undergarments?

Well, I don't have a fit form.  If I did, my life would be a slice of amazing pie.  But I don't so, oh well...

For those you who don't know what a "fit form" is, it's a mannequin form usually of the neck to butt portion of the body.  In the sewing world,
it's made for draping and tailoring commonly for formal wear.  Which I am doing.  But without a fit form :(  wah, wah - you get the picture.

So since I am sans fit form for now, I have resorted to draping and measuring pieces on myself, which means that instead of wearing drapey, comfy clothing,
I have to wear second skin pieces while sewing so I can measure and place fabric with ease.

It's not my first outfit choice for the house but it makes my projects much easier and...

Sometimes I catch myself in the mirror walking by and I have to say, the simplicity of this look is kinda chic no?

Anyway, I wasn't really wearing anything interesting on Sunday but I thought I would just show what I was wearing anyway!

I'm out ladies!  Off to watch my Khaleesi kick some butt in Game of Thrones!!

Spring Chick

Easter festivities never fail to bring out the girlier, frou frouy side of my closet.  And since my skin tone tends to fair well with pastels, I dive right into the moment every year.

And these pink voluminous pants I got for $3 at Value Village - they have managed to stay refreshingly relevant in my Tiny Closet and shine particularly bright every Spring.

This Spring though, I'm pairing them with a bandeau and showing a little skin!

While mid-drift baring is a sport in which my participation has always been minimal, I think this year I'm going to be joining all those flashy L.A. girls and showing off a bit more of that sexy lower rib area... yeah!
