My Fall Jacket...

Around this time of year, I can't fake the chill on the blog.  There is none.  Well, not really.
An oversize sweater works at night and light Fall/Summer wear during the day hours.  It's just not cold.

While walking through The Grove a few days ago, I overheard some girls lamenting over sweater season and how much money they waisted buying sweaters they wouldn't wear but had to have.  I feel ya, ladies!

All these gorgeous peacoats and cute bombers in the store windows and I'd be sweating within minutes if I tried to wear any of them.
But I want one!!  Alas, like I've said before,

"My Tiny Closet is no museum.  Clothes were meant to be worn, not hung to look pretty and collect dust!"

Hmmmm, but I am planning to visit Seattle pretty soon so maybe I can reason one lil cute Winter coat, yes?

Anyway, I do love jackets and I find them more feasible than a full on coat.  Especially this completely sheer, lacy jacket.
Layered over my tunic button-up, its the just the right amount of warmth I need.  Because I don't need much.

And on another note, I got my hair cut at a salon for the first time in years.  The cut was not to take off length but to fix all the style cutting I've done myself throughout the years.  Do you like it?  Maybe you can't tell...  Anyway, I got it done at Devachan (the only place I trust to cut my 4a/b(c?) hair).  The reason I chose to have it done pro was because I decided I'm going to let my tiny lil curls shrink up as much as they want these days.  Let shrinkage reign!

So with a pro design cut, it'll look great no matter if I stretch em' or let em' shrink up.  That was becoming a problem before.  I used to style cut my hair stretched.  And when it shrank, it looked pretty bad.  Now, a lot of people ask me if I've cut my hair... do you get that when your hair shrinks??  I'm guessing you do.  Well, I've just been letting it happen.  Tis what it is.  I like the effortlessness of it and come wash time, it's a lot less tangled.  Well, whatdya know!  Anyway, just thought I'd share :)

Now, back to scrolling coats on Pinterest...
happiest of Mondays to you, loves!

All In The Skirt

For Theo's 30th birthday, I was shopping for days to try and find the best outfit to bring him into the new decade.

I'm not used to shopping as incessantly as I found myself doing that week.  My need to find the "perfect" outfit drove me practically insane but it was a rare moment in my life where I was not going to stand for anything I already had in my Tiny Closet.  It had to be something brand spanking new.

My search all came to halting stop however, when I came across this glorious skirt at The wasteland, my all time favorite thrift shop on Melrose Ave.  I can't say it was a magical happenstance as I walked into that store with full intent to see every single piece of clothing before I left, so finding the skirt was as inevitable as it was so phenomenal!!

Soft Waves & Silk Sandals

I've been enjoying a warm and cozy intro to Spring this past week.  I used to dislike dressing for warmer weather but since moving to L.A., I've completely changed.  This ensemble is a staple and usually worn with my oxfords or Toms but with this fancy weather lately, I thought I'd upgrade my shoe game to something softer and more appropriate for afternoon cocktails and window shopping.

I feel like I've been cropping everything from jeans to skirts to tops!  Including this men's shirt.  I love wearing this cropped button up with everything in my Tiny Closet!  And these harem pants went amazingly with the top last weekend.

I recently decided to let someone else do my hair.  Eeee!  After 5 years of personally cutting, styling, and raising a head of natural healthy locks, I'm moving on to other important things and trusting it to someone else.  I randomly made an appointment with Drybar, a blow drying salon (I thought that stuff was for straight-haired girls!) and I'm hooked!!

I usually prefer the smaller curls but these loose big curls are fabulous too.  So lush looking.  And also, having a professional take to my strands was shocking.  My hair was silkier than I've ever seen it - even my husband was shocked at the quality difference.  Anyway, I'm feeling it.  This slightly different look is a nice alternative to my norm.

shirt: Pink / harem pants: American Apparel / sandals: Nine West

And these sandals with silk straps are so sultry!  I've had them for get this,
13 years
yep, truly a Tiny Closet treasure.  See how I've worn them in the past with a draped jumpsuit, and also with a mini skirt

Just goes to show, if it still works, why throw it out?
Keep working it!

And with that I, bid you a very happy Monday :)

Black & White and Stripes All Over

When it comes to skirts, I tend to have a consistent taste for the classics.  Yes, I'm a very modern girl, clothing wise and my favorite fashion decade (of all the fashion decades) is the one we're in but still, skirts have always held a retro place in my heart.

Cinched high waist, thick pleating, dramatic tapering, midi length - I really do love the older trends and classic skirt designs.  So after eyeing a breathtaking remnant fabric at work the other day, I decided to use the piece to make my own cute, retro skirt.

Black and white can be worn day or night, dressed up or dressed down, in Summer or Winter.  The stars kind of aligned with this fabric, ya know?  And it has turned out to be just perfect for my Tiny Closet.

I am wearing my trusty white oxfords....no, I still have not found another pair that can even stand next to these gems.  But they can't go on forever the way I wear them all.the.time.  The search continues for their successor.

Some S/S Excitement

As I'm actively preparing for Spring and Summer, loading up on lots of gorgeous fabric, my interest has been held lately with stripes and chevron prints.
I'm sooooo into it these days.  And while I'm going gaga for stripes, I dove right into it with this newest Tiny Closet Collection piece.

Do we like?

This buttery striped jersey maxi dress I whipped up will now be the perfect pull on for almost anything.
And I left it a bit longer than normal so I can pair it with heeled sandals during the Summer.

With stripes and 3/4 length sleeves, I designed this simple thing to just be a modern and versatile version of the muumuu.  So it can be a cozy dress to lounge in at home or wear out to grab my groceries, and theeen! -- add some gold accessories and some heels and it can be an elegant, easy dress to wear to my neighborhood rooftop bar.

Whoo!  Easy breeeeezy!
Just how I want the Spring and Summer months to be :)

Fresh

I never wrap my hair at night so by morning, my curls tend to mold into a Huey-esque style, dense and tall.  Yesterday morning, I decided to just go with it.  I put in some bobby pins, smoothed the sides and threw on some wayfarers.  Not gonna lie - the new do felt pretty fresh!

To compliment my architectural hairstyle, I wore a streamlined jumper and a simple white tube dress.  Minimal just how I like it.
**sidenote: the applique Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn kissing is amazing.**

So I think, all together, this new updo is pretty awesome.

Sometimes I forget just how much a hairstyle can change and influence clothing.

It has revved me up to experiment some more this weekend!

Movies With The Guys

On Sunday, Theo and I took my dad out to the movies to see Prometheus.  Given that I'm a total sci-fi nut (Theo as well *sigh*), of course it would be obvious that we all had to come together for the Alien "prequel" - as that was the best belated Father's Day gift a dad like mine, in particular would love :)
And he did!

Since I tend to fancy men styles and knew heels would be a bit obnoxious for this matinee occasion, I put on my girl-next-door Chucks, my hipster-next-door vest, added a lil Chanel-like flair and hung with the boys for the afternoon.

vest: Diesel Men / tee: Zara / leggings: Gap / necklace: thrifted / leather jacket: Muubaa / shoes: Converse

And all with just a working canvas of leggings, a simple graphic tee and sneaks.  Accessories can be everything.  Especially when you're trying not to look like you tried.

Cus you know, you're just hangin' with the guys ;)
