Swim Style Mix & Match: Part I

Getting ready for the festivities of July, I have been collecting swimwear for the past couple months.  Here and there :)

I actually don't like swimsuits.  It's very challenging to find suits or pieces that flatter my particular shape and the ones that take my breath away also leave me gasping for air at the price.  Every.single.year.  I wrestle with the choice of either investing in a truly fabulous, amazeballs swimsuit that puts my monthly student loan payment to shame and I can wear it for a few years - OR - I just go to Target and pick up the latest flavor for $20 and call it a Summer...

Decisions, decisions...

This year, I didn't choose either.  Instead I thrifted, mixed and matched and thought outside the box.  I realize since I don't really swim anyway, and much prefer lounging and looking good, I decided to get more creative with my options.  Especially since these days, I am naturally finding myself more poolside than I have in my entire life.

So here's Part One of my swimsuit chronicles:

bandeau and half of a one-piece...

bra top: F&F (Heavenly Couture) / one piece: thrifted / necklace: Swarovski

I tied the straps of this thrifted one piece around my waist.  Pulled on my trusty bra top and draped over a simple necklace.  I've always loved the sleek vogue-esque stylings of post swimming fun: the textured wet hair pulled back in a bun or parted down the middle.  I attempted this look but with suuuuper curly hair, it didn't turn out as sleek as I'd hoped.  Pool water might as well be nail polish remover when it comes to my hair.  So drying!

Anyway, I've been loving my new after-work ritual of scampering up to the roof top and going for a quick swim.  Even though the sun beats down on our pool all day, the water is still freezing (I don't get the science of that at all) but I jump in anyway.  It's a great way to just woooosh the stress of the day right out!  I guess the temperature changes are really relaxing because for the rest of the day, I feel as light as a feather.

Come back later this week for Part II!!

Chain Accenting

I was trying on various belts on Monday for these particular low rise Benetton skinnies. Nothing was really working.
Actually, these denims have never looked attractive in belts as they hit me at the widest part of my body - a belt just highlights it.

What I needed was something slung.  And a bit dressy to go with my blazer and gold cuff.  Then I realized, my thrifted black and gold chain necklace would be perfect.
So I attached both ends of the necklace to parts of my jeans.

Not a belt, but just the right accenting that I needed.

blazer: thrifted / asymmetric top: Asos / denim: Benetton / earrings: Tory Burch / flats: thrifted / cuff: Nordstrom

I am totally loving this!  I think on my next thrift trip, I'm going to look for long necklaces to go further with this.  It'll be a great look for Summer skirts and dresses!

A WS Woman

A couple years ago, I was very lucky to meet and become friends with Whitney of Whitney Stern Jewelry Design.  A particularly magical woman.  And just like this Seattle-based jewelry designer, I immediately found her pieces to be one of a kind and abundant with creativity and beauty.
Whitney Stern actually collaborated with my husband in designing my engagement ring (from scratch) and it is still the most complimented accessory I've ever owned.  And it should be right?  Ha, but it actually is!  Anyway, a couple weeks ago, in the eye of my wedding storm, when I was asked to tag along with Theo to be in WS Jewelry Design's photo shoot kicking off their new exclusive line, I jumped at the chance to be apart of such an awesome process and...model her jewelry!!

I'm definitely a girly girl and I love my girlfriends so meeting the other handpicked women who modeled for WS that day was a wonderful experience.

Since Theo was working with Whitney that day, I wasn't able to focus the camera on me for Tiny Closet records but I did take a few Instagrammies.  The pro photos will be coming soon but this will have to do for now.

My favorite items of WS design is the rings.  Guuhhhh, they're exquisite!  And when one of the models was texting between shots, I had to snap a pic of her adorned fingers.

I've never worn so much jewelry in my life and it was amazing!  The shoot really inspired me to push the boundaries of fashion jewelry and wear it to the max.  Rest assured, you will see this inspiration materialize one of these days.

We shot in one of my favorites: gorgeous Italian restaurant, Barolo.  With dripping wax candles, ornate glass chandeliers and curtains and mirrors everywhere, it was quite sexy and dramatic.  If you visit Seattle, be sure to go there.  Either with your girlfriends or a special guy - it's perfect.

I'm incredibly excited to view the launch coming up and to have been a part of a growing national brand!  From Lucky to O to the New York Times, WS Jewelry Design has been buzzing with press but her work rings truest to me here:

"Whitney creates jewelry for women of the world who continually inspire her designs. A WS Woman follows her heart and chases her dreams. She is not only a conscious consumer, but a dedicated world citizen. Whitney’s vision is to create meaningful and unique products that help empower these women to recognize their individual and shared potential. She is committed to improving local and overseas communities through sharing profits with charities and by engaging in sustainable and ethical business practices." - whitneystern.com

Check out WS Jewelry Design and fall in love!

And speaking of love.... Wedding post coming on Friday!!!  I know, I can't wait either :)

Details

Today, I paired my trusty harem pants with Theo's chambray.  And you know, when it comes to clothing, once I get my top and bottoms on, that's my box, people!  I'm done and ready to head out.  I'm a conceptual thinker as well as a minimalist soooo honing in to the details doesn't come naturally.  Though I believe simplicity is the height of sophistication, details are just so damn fun and
I wanna play too!

My Tiny Closet and I are all about evolving so I decided to step out of the box today and dip my toes into something new...
Detail
Where I would normally wear nude polish to blend and lengthen my fingers, my lemon yellow nails now act as great accessories to make my chambray and harems pop!
Also, these bangles have now made their 3rd cameo and I'm certainly not through with them.  They give more meaning to my ensembles and since my clothing choices are so simple, these bangles give me oomph without being bulky or unnecessary (in spite of their size).   Plus, they add to the overall esthetic of my shiny wooden necklace, which has also become a go to.

Last but not least (and do I even have to say it)?  The neutral colors of these items go with everything (economically, this is thrilling to me).  Items that are able to be paired with everything in one's closet is like a Tiny Closet commandment so...end of discussion!

New Necklace

Wood carving is a huge source of income all over the Philippines.  Specifically hand carved furnishings.  So it's not surprising the plethora of gorgeous wooden jewelry that stems from this popular art.  I have a huge fear of commitment when it comes to owning jewelry.  Oh it's beautiful dangling on that velvet display but then I put it on and its too heavy or the metal is too cold or the design is too bulky, wah wah wah....

Have you heard anyone say that?  "I like this necklace but the metal is too cold!"
Oy.

So this wooden statement piece is a wonderful compromise to comfort.  Not to mention,
I LOOOVE IT!

Oh and it goes great with these harem pants too.

I got them in size XL so that I could pull them up to to make a one piece.  Sometimes its pretty cool being a shorty :)

Pardon the bare feet.  It's not always easy to wear shoes here.  Even in restaurants like this one.  I was even at the gym and people were running barefoot on the treadmills!  My ensembles would look so much better with a great pair of shoes but oh well for now.

This Indian restaurant was overlooking the sandy beach and full of lemony bright pillows and low hanging lanterns.  As the sun set, Theo and I ate some Samosas and spooned.  Heehee!
