Sick Day

While I've been taking a turn for the worse (I do tend to get dramatic about these sort of things...) the weather has seemed to be taking a turn for the better.  The sun has been shining without a cloud in the sky for the past couple days so Thursday, I decided to go out for second and enjoy it.

I went to a local market to do some craving-driven shopping.  You know, the essentials:  polenta, coconut water, Justin's organic peanut butter cups and almond milk.  Yeah.

I was pretty layered as I didn't know just how warm it was outside.  Nonetheless, I just wanted to be comfortable with no fuss.  As you probably have noticed, I've been digging mens shirts lately and I've been wearing them nonstop.  Yesterday was no exception.  This one I'm wearing is from Zara Man and it's got a much narrower torso.
If you're looking for a more "fitted" mens shirt, Zara Man caters to smaller sizes.

I love this light weight wool jumper!!!  I wore it here as well with heels.  I learned fast that its open design is hospitable to a lot of different combinations and pairings...
Like denim and an oversize sweater.

I wore the tap shoes to lighten the layers.  And my mood :)

Hope you enjoyed the week!
See ya back here on Monday!

All Dolled Up

Swing coats have always been so classic to me.  I personally think they're timeless and if I was 5'10, my Tiny Closet would have an entire collection of them!  But I'm not.
And swing coats make me look juvenile because I am pint size... and also because they're just normally seen on little girls and dolls.

Still, when layered casually (and not worn with a Sunday school dress), a swing coat really does have a classic, confident femininity for any age.

coat: Forever21 / striped dress: StyleMint / all other items thrifted or vintage

cage ring: H&M

My hair was completely picked brushed out in this post.  I brushed it all out in order to trim it myself but I didn't have time to re-wash it and activate the curls.
First time my hair has been brushed out like this before.  It was so pillowy and shapeable, ha!  I think I might do it more often.

With this classic, casual layering, a cute navy swing coat that's verging on dressy and "doll-like" becomes a natural counterpart and a more feminine version of the trench.  I dig it.

Have a splendid weekend!
I'm excited to show you my new sewing projects come Monday!

In to Navy

I never thought I'd buy into the whole "jeggings" epidemic that's happened over the last few years... But with the growing options and styles of this quasi-maternity wear, I gotta say, the moment I slipped on a pair, the heavily accommodating waste band and  forgiving thigh area sold me instantly.  Plus it made me feel better about myself on my thicker days.

Anyway, the reason I'm even bringing up this dying breed of pants is because I've always worn mine with long tunics, ya know, to cover them up but still show a hint of a denim look.  And I wear them on laundry days or grocery shopping  and whatnot.  But after finding yet another gem (a sharp little sailor top) at Driftwood consignment in Madrona, these jeggings all of a sudden look suitable enough to not need to be hidden!  And because I felt a bit 40s that day, I popped on my tap shoes and my M.A.C. Red lipstick a la "I love Paris In The Springtime" :)  Ya know, to finish the look.
Sailor necklines are the cutest.  Add navy stripes and cute just got cheeky.  I look like a black Annie - hilarious!  And awesome.  This silk knit Ralph Lauren polo makes the bottom part of my ensemble perfect sense.  And with the tap shoes, well, where's a parlor or a wash deck to dance around on when you need one??  I'm totally mixing metaphors here but as you've probably already noticed, this outfit covers a couple campy themes.

Jeggings: Asos.com - all other clothing including accessories are vintage.
And of course, that's not all I can do with this sailor top.  You'll definitely be seeing it pop up through Fall and Winter as that is the Tiny Closet way but I wanted to debut this item in a more carefree light to remind myself to have fun with fashion and play with styles.

So have FUN in your clothes this weekend!

Brunch & A Walk

Saturday morning, Theo and I went to one of our usual spots for brunch, Cafe Soleil in Madrona.  Lately, I've been practically living in a new applique-eyelet-type frock by Catherine Malandrino.  So of course, I didn't think twice throwing it on again to lounge about and eat breakfast food.
I actually traded this fantastic find at a local designer consignment shop, Driftwood (in Madrona - I will surely be devoting more time to talk about this gem of a boutique later!).
Yes, this dress was received as a trade...so it was kinda free :)  And in return, I happily handed over an old, never before worn Vera Wang dress I'd been neglecting for a couple years.  Everyone was happy!  Since the Tiny Closet is not a museum, if an item hasn't been worn at least once in over a year, it's time to let it go.

After brunching, we walked our dog, Dakota through the neighborhood.  Stopping at pretty much every jewelry boutique on the way.  My fear of accessories has now turned into obsession.  Dakota was so patient while I ooh and ahh'd over the new items...and so was Theo.
This oversize sweater is new as well.  I love oversize clothing. What can I say, I love the drape and drama of it.  This sweater was thrifted from Value Village - a size 14 and therefor oversize and perfect for what I had in mind.  You should see it buttoned, this thing really is amazing.
The tap shoes are still going strong, ribbons and all :)  I also wore them with a silk dress and fishnets here.  I feel like classic show tap shoes should be a staple in one's closet: black, glossy, feminine and versatile.  Perfect.  Mine were thrifted from Goodwill.
I have to say, these days I'm finding it difficult to find time to sit and muse with my dear Tiny Closet.  With my new job, an imminent wedding and new sewing projects, I've been skimping on spending time doing what has grown to be my most favorite hobby: writing about fashion!  It makes me so happy :)  Does it make you happy tooooo?

And lately I've been thinking to myself, "If this is like my favorite thing to like, do... then maybe I should like, do it more..."  (yes, my inner voice is Cher from Clueless).  So, I've decided I will be slicing more time out from now on to spend on ya know, the important stuff.  Clothes.

More coming up.  For realsies!

These Shoes Are Made For Dancing!

Merry Christmas to all that celebrate this wildly varied holiday.  For the first time, I spent my Christmas Eve day with just one person.  My fiance, Theo :)  Walking through downtown and around the pier, the air was so different.  The people who were out weren't rushing around.  Not a lot of noise and chatter - people were literally strolling... everywhere.  As someone who's lived the downtown city life for almost 10 years, I rarely see people stroll.   I have always spent the eve of Christmas in the suburbs, away from the city hustle, cozied down in a big couch watching National Lampoon's  Christmas Vacation.  Its funny how every family has their own traditions and rituals.  This Christmas Eve was different but still just as cozy and absolutely wonderful.

I was also wearing a festive outfit.  Didn't feel like strolling in heels so I popped on a pair of
glossy tap shoes.

These fabulous tap shoes were $5 at Goodwill and I got the ribbons at a sewing shop.  The bow around my waist is a tie to an old knit robe... perfect as a thick warm winter bow for this silk dress.
And this is me bein' me.  You can put me in a dress but I'll still act a fool!

dress: Banana Republic / cardigan: Victoria's Secret / hosiery: Agent Provocateur /
tap shoes: Goodwill / leather jacket: Ever

It is now officially 2 hours into Christmas and here I am blogging.  Dedication, right?  Let's hope so.  I have been so wired and inspired by everything lately.  Keep visiting for more mixes and matches of me and my Tiny Closet.  2012 will be chock full of both!  And I hope you are having a wonderful day :)
