Harem Pants Built To Last

With the Style Bloggers of Color conference finished with fond memories, I returned from Miami and I'm catching up on some much needed sleep!

My last post on my maxi that won't quit reminded me another item that always just seems to work in a myriad of ways.
My very first pair of harem pants:

jumper: street stand in Philippines / jacket: American Eagle / high tops: Santee Alley / bag: Banana Republic / earrings: All Saints

I wore these all throughout the Summer and even to bed but I'm finding, with this mild Fall, I can wear them layered as a casual jumper with my high tops.
A new ensemble for me in casual wear because it's easy, fast, cozy and kinda cool looking.

Even though this is my favorite ensemble to date with these pants, here's a few other ways I've worn them:

Getting back to sewing and designing for Fall and Winter, I am happy to be back to my usual tricks and schedule.

And for those of you who were not able to attend my workshop on blog photography,
I am excited to say that I will be posting a video of my presentation on my blog!
So keep your eyes out for the post!

Missing Beach Life

Some of you may remember my lil stint as a beach bum.
A stylish beach bum :)

Yes, far away on the other side of the Pacific, on the tiny island of Boracay, I became acquainted with my very first pair of harem pants.
These were so long, I mainly wore them as a jumper.  A harem jumper!

Now in L.A. I am still rocking this airy one piece.  In fact, I realize this is the exact same outfit I wore when I first introduced them to my closet.
At the time I was barefoot...  This time, I think some tan heels are a seamless upgrade, yes?

heels: Aldo
- all other items were collected from street stands

When I found these harem pants, it really was the beginning of a wonderful friendship.  These voluminous pants have been my besties going on two years now.
My adoration for the style also spawned five more pairs of harems (surprisingly, way over the national average) and, contrary to style rule books everywhere,
harem pants are definitely a basic staple in my wardrobe.

Just goes to show how much you can learn about your own taste and style by being adventurous with clothes and not being afraid to love what you love!

I Couldn't Wait

In anticipation of my move to California, I picked a few new thrifted items that might be perfect for all the warm weather I'd be living in.  One of them was this
slinky, maxi jumper.

Of course, my romantic notions of 80-degree Winters here were silly and naive so I breaking it out of my Tiny Closet couldn't come soon enough.  I need to settle down, I know.
Ah, but I am incredibly impatient you see so I had to improvise.

As dynamite as this jumper will look sans under top, it's still gorgeously dramatic with a fitted long sleeve scoop neck underneath :)  And booties!

jumper: thrift / top: Zara / booties: Jessica Simpson / earrings from a friend / bangles: Chamak by Priya Kakkar

I'm excited to show a bit more skin when the time is right.  But for now I suppose I will settle for some fun layering with the few seasonal wears that I have.  Aaaaand

A New Uniform

Strolling around downtown Fremont after lunch with Theo, we spotted a basement boutique, The Fremont Vintage Mall.  We forgot about our errands and enjoyed the afternoon flipping through records, an enormous collection of Polaroid cameras, coats, nightgowns, cowboy boots, something else cool...  This place is spectacular!!

And, like a puppy at an animal shelter (not really), this beautiful oversize wool jumper with working pockets clung to me the entire time.  Oh, as well as some superbly fitting sunnies.  I think the sunglasses I found are even cooler than the RayBan Wayfarers I've been sulking over for a year (can't pay $300 for sunnies, I just CAN'T dammit!).  These were $12.  The jumper was a couple more.  That's what I call doable.

jumper: vintage (Fremont Vintage Mall) / t-shirt: James Perse / booties: Jessica Simpson / earrings: Tory Burch / sunnies: vintage (Fremont Vintage Mall)
Ladies and gentleman, I have found a new staple outfit.  Roomy, modern, comfy, chic, minimal.  And versatiiiiile!!

So on those days where I find myself pouting in front of a stubborn Tiny Closet, I can pull out this pet and gooooo.  My new go-to.

Enjoy the weekend!
Natalie, out!
