Emergency Styling

I always pack the day of travel - I find I make better choices having limited time to plan my wardrobe.  In this case, my time had run out. Theo and I slept past our alarm to catch the train and ended up rushing into our week of relaxation.  I grabbed a bundle of clothes, completely forgetting another equally pertinent stack of items next to it, and we fled.

What was in the other stack, you ask?  Hmmm:
Tooth brushes!  But don't worry, the toothpaste was packed.
Makeup brushes.  Ah, so that was the missing link to my blush!  Well at least I brought lipstick... oh wait, no.
Socks.
My go-to sweater and cardigan.  Both items I couldn't actually get to last week. Ironic.
When we got to the hotel and opened our suitcase, I mean, there was nothing I could do but laugh.  Oh fucking well!  You know?
What you're seeing here is some emergency styling, indeed.  A pair of sneakers, an off-the-shoulder jumpsuit (life-saver!!) and a robe-like cardigan I bought from Urban Outfitters when I arrived in San Diego.  (Kudos to UO for this gem!)

Ah, c'est la vie.  When it comes to planned events, no matter how small (mini vacation) or big (wedding day), I have always gone off script rather spectacularly.  In this case, I was able to scrounge up a couple outfits to take me from day to night all week.  Hopefully my resourcefulness has inspired!

Back in L.A. and fully charged for the week!
Hope you enjoyed the Memorial weekend yourselves!
Psst, see ya back on Thursday :)

  2. The robe gives the outfit a nice punch of color without overwhelming it.

  4. Hi Natalie! I love your style! I stumbled across your blog today while looking for hair cut inspiration. I actually found a photo of your longer hair days, and was pleasantly surprised to see you've cut it too! Then I realised you were in LA, yay! Is there a salon that you recommend that does a great job with tightly coiled hair. My hair is very similar to yours. I've been here nearly 7 years, but have just maintained it on my own. Since I don't trust myself to do such a drastic cut, I'm looking for recommendations. :)

    1. Hi Alyssa! Thank you for reaching out :) Glad you stumbled on to the blog! For type 3/4 hair like ours, yeah it's going to be challenging trusting someone with such fragile complex hair but after all these years I would still recommend Devachan Salon in Pasadena. I would certainly suggest a senior cut/stylist too. Unfortunately, I have not ventured further than Devachan for natural cuts and styling since I've been doing Brazilian Blowouts and other non-natural styles lately. But I would start there! Good luck and have fun with your new cut :)

    2. Hi Alyssa, you could try Lesley Hall (Yelp page for reference: http://www.yelp.com/biz/lesley-hall-designs-west-la-westwood-2) she does both natural and relaxed hair and is pretty awesome. For reference, she's done my sister's hair for 20+ years and mine for a long time as well!

Thanks Shay. Depended on how my experience goes tomorrow, I'm happy the know of an alternate salon. :)
